Our Commitment to Housing

Since our founding over a century ago, Stanford has been committed to helping both our campus affiliates and our wider regional community thrive. That’s why we care deeply about contributing to solutions to our region’s housing crisis. Over the past two decades, Stanford has added more than 7,700 new beds and housing units for our students, faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows — more than any other Bay Area academic institution or Silicon Valley employer.

Even though Stanford’s university housing supply exceeds all regional and almost all national peer institutions, we recognize the impacts of the housing crisis on our wider regional community and have created or preserved housing for the broader community, seniors, and our low-income neighbors.
